To better cope with the increasing demand for personalized health care, PBC has initiated the Biochip Initiative program to be sponsored by the Ministry of Knowledge & Energy, Gyeongbuk Province, Pohang City, and NSB POSTECH. Based on the NanoCone Technology developed by Dr. Joon Wook Park (Professor of Chemistry, and CEO of NSB POSTECH), the Biochip Initiative group aims to develop and produce biochip products applicable to personalized health care by developing biochip technology and derivative technology which can
replace the existing diagnostics technology in terms of speed, accuracy, and reliability. Through licensing-in of most excellent bio-markers the Biochip Initiative group will develop diagnostic biochips with the goal of USFDA approval in mind.
Furthermore, through global marketing of biochip system and attracting multinational investors, it aims to grow into a global enterprise. This initiative is in effect for five years from 2008 to 2012 and the funds will amount to $40 million.Members of the Biochip Group,
led by Professor Joon Won Park, include Professors Kwan Yong Choi of Life Science, Mahn-Joo Kim, Jong Hoon Hahn, Young Ho Lee of Chemistry, Geun Bae Lim of Mechanical Engineering, and Research Professor Ju-Won Kwak.
